This home is simple and yet it is the vernacular that creates within a culture the mystery of the every day life. This particular picture is of a recreation of what their home were like, but it gives a window into the material of their culture. This particular home would be the vast majority of the slaves housing. Most of Washington's slaves lived on the plantation as a field worker. Most slaves had to build their own homes, and you can see from the photo that the were given basic materials like mud and logs.
