Christiana Campbell's receipt regarding George Washington's bill on April 8th, 1772.

Description

On April 8th, 1772, George Washington paid female tavern keeper Christiana Campbell seven pounds, seven shillings, and six pence. Mrs. Campbell signed her name at the bottom of the document. It states, “Williamsburg April 8th, 1772 I received from George Washington the sum of seven pounds, seven shillings, and six pence in full to this date, C Campbell.” The Special Collections at The John D. Rockefeller Jr. Library has the original receipt.
