Liquor License Court Minutes

This is an image from the Fairfax Court Minute Book for 1772-1773. On this page from Novemeber 6th, 1773, the bottom of the page states, License is granted Sopia Beall to keep an Ordinary who with John West acknowledged a bond for the same.” This shows how a female named Sopia Beall was given a liquor license to maintain and run an Ordinary. The courts had to provide all liquor licenses and males were the main recipients in the 18th century. The Historic Fairfax Courthouse currently maintains this minute book.
