The memorial of the undersigned, citizens of Lancaster county and parts
adjacent, in the State of Pennsylvania,
RESPECTFULLY REPRESENTS:
That your memorialists view with abhorrence and detestation the inhuman and barbarous practice of duelling, and entertain the opinion that
no man who in any wise participates in such practices should have an
agency in making laws for a civilized and Christian community, nor be allowed to hold any office of trust or profit in the same.
Your memorialists, therefore, pray your honorable bodies to pass a law
prohibiting every person who may be hereafter engaged in, or connected
with, a duel, in any manner or way, from being eligible to any station,
trust, or office, under the General Government; and providing, also, that
every person so engaged shall, in consequence thereof, immediately forfeit
any such station, trust, or office, that he may at the time be in exercise or
possession of. And, as in duty bound, they will ever pray, &c
