All Fairfax County Court minute books live in what is now known as Fairfax County Historic Courthouse, the exact location where these Gentlemen Justices would meet from 1800 on. Every time court was in session, one of the justices would keep notes in their order books. The County order books that are still available don't begin until 1749, a few years after George Mason joined the court. Fairfax County Courthouse was occupied by the Confederacy during the Civil War, and documents were lost, destroyed, or damaged because of this. However, a good chunk of the minute books from this time period still exist, making this research possible. Records from 1763 to 1765 are available on microfilm in San Marino, California, most likely due to being stolen during the Civil War. Records from 1774 through 1783 also haven't been found, probably destroyed in the Civil War as well.
